Foxton Locks Inn celebrates ten years in business with a beer

Cheers! The owners of the Foxton Locks Inn are celebrating a decade in charge of the popular waterside pub by launching a new in-house beer.

Sisters Stephanie Hamblin and Sandy Tandy, owners of the Foxton Locks Inn, are marking the ten year anniversary by introducing a celebratory ale to their pumps – the ‘Foxton Locks Ale’. Available now, the special guest ale, brewed by Elgood and sons will run alongside the current range of real ales.

The sisters took over the running of the Foxton Locks Inn in 2004 after it had been closed for some time. The pub re-opened the following summer after extensive renovations in and around the canal basin, offering an extensive food menu to complement the section of wines and beer.

The past decade has given the owners many reasons to celebrate. Notably, in 2013 Foxton Locks Inn was named one of the ’30 great spots on the canals’ in the UK by The Times newspaper, cited especially for being one of the best places to eat.

More recently, the unveiling of a £150,000 renovation which created the all-weather Terrace space has proven to be a great success with visitors. The Terrace features under floor heating with floor to ceiling windows offering panoramic views of Foxton Locks and the canal. The investment earned the pub the accolade of Leicestershire Tourism Pub of the Year in 2014.

Stephanie Hamblin says “I can’t believe how fast the past decade has gone by.  There have been so many good moments, and we’re looking forward to many more in the future.  We wanted to mark our decade here by giving our loyal customers a Foxton house ale that I am sure they will enjoy.”

The Foxton Locks Inn is based at the bottom of the Foxton Locks just outside the village of Foxton  near Market Harborough. The pub offers visitors scenic views and a location to watch canal boats pass. It regularly holds themed evenings, pop up restaurant events and tribute nights.

Foxton Locks Festival a massive success

This year’s Foxton Locks Festival was a massive success, gathering in around 6,000 adults and 2,000 children. The festival held many activities such as live music, local food and craft stalls, a children’s fun fair and a miniature zoo as well as much more. The organiser of the event, Ann Bushby said, “It was an extremely successful weekend, especially considering the weather on Saturday was so-so”.

She added that she hoped the weekend would thousands of pounds for the Foxton Inclined Plane Trust which runs the popular event. “People know by now that the Foxton Locks Festival is a fantastic family day out”.

The Foxton Inclined Plane Trust is an independent charity who’s main concern is the preservation of the Victorian Barge Lift which ran from 1900 to 1911. They work closely with the Canal and River Trust to make Foxton one of the best waterway visitor sites in the country.
