Join us at The Foxton Locks Inn for Burns Night, a night celebrating the life and literature of poet Robert Burns.
Burns Night is celebrated world over, it’s a night where Scotland lead the celebrations of the legacy of one of the world’s most famous literary figures, Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns.
Five years after his death, the first Burns supper was held to celebrate his life and his poetry. Since then Scotland and now the world has celebrated the day annually.
Burns Night evening fills an altogether cold January evening with warmth and fun. The tradition makes Burns night a must- an evening steeped with history and culture.
Foxton Locks Inn has run Burns night events for several years. To mark the occasion in 2016 we be providing a special 4 course supper, including the traditional haggis (vegetarian options available). To set the scene we will be accompanied by our resident piper and a quiz will be held, with prizes being available throughout the evening.
Taking place on the night itself, Monday 25th January 2016, tickets are available for only £20 per person. Booking in advance is essential.
Cheers! The owners of the Foxton Locks Inn are celebrating a decade in charge of the popular waterside pub by launching a new in-house beer.
Sisters Stephanie Hamblin and Sandy Tandy, owners of the Foxton Locks Inn, are marking the ten year anniversary by introducing a celebratory ale to their pumps – the ‘Foxton Locks Ale’. Available now, the special guest ale, brewed by Elgood and sons will run alongside the current range of real ales.
The sisters took over the running of the Foxton Locks Inn in 2004 after it had been closed for some time. The pub re-opened the following summer after extensive renovations in and around the canal basin, offering an extensive food menu to complement the section of wines and beer.
The past decade has given the owners many reasons to celebrate. Notably, in 2013 Foxton Locks Inn was named one of the ’30 great spots on the canals’ in the UK by The Times newspaper, cited especially for being one of the best places to eat.
More recently, the unveiling of a £150,000 renovation which created the all-weather Terrace space has proven to be a great success with visitors. The Terrace features under floor heating with floor to ceiling windows offering panoramic views of Foxton Locks and the canal. The investment earned the pub the accolade of Leicestershire Tourism Pub of the Year in 2014.
Stephanie Hamblin says “I can’t believe how fast the past decade has gone by. There have been so many good moments, and we’re looking forward to many more in the future. We wanted to mark our decade here by giving our loyal customers a Foxton house ale that I am sure they will enjoy.”
The Foxton Locks Inn is based at the bottom of the Foxton Locks just outside the village of Foxton near Market Harborough. The pub offers visitors scenic views and a location to watch canal boats pass. It regularly holds themed evenings, pop up restaurant events and tribute nights.

With times changing and technology advancing, it’s hard to keep track of what’s changed in our surroundings and what hasn’t. It’s even harder to imagine what our country looked like 200 years ago.
However, Foxton Locks flights don’t seem to have changed at all with the historic canal locks still looking very similar to how they looked during the 19th Century.
This year will be the 200th anniversary of when the locks were built and to celebrate, the Canal River Trust have released photographs of the locks from when they were built so you can see how well they have been preserved. Built by architect Benjamin Bevan between 1810 and 1814, the locks facilitate the Grand Union Canal and are the longest staircase of locks in Britain.
To mark the occasion there will be 3 days of celebration. This weekend, on Saturday 9th of August people will be encouraged to come along to hear live music from a local folk band playing traditional canal music and to enjoy stalls selling local goodies and food. As well as that, on Sunday the 10th of August there will be a parade of historic boats from Northamptonshire.
Foxton Locks is home to much more than the historic flights, enjoy walks around the area, a day trip on a canal boat or a visit to the Foxton Locks Inn. Drop in for a bite to eat or a drink, or book now on 0116 279 1515.
The music is all booked, the Vikings & Saxon are coming and the craft tent is filling up. There will be a Fun Dog Show on Saturday afternoon. If you’d like to enter there is more information on Foxton Locks Festival website.
The Foxton Locks Festival is taking shape and it looks like it going to be even better. So make sure you’ve got the date in your diary!
It is down to volunteers that the festival happens, so if you’d like to help, contact them for information.
Come into the Foxton Locks Inn for refreshments and a light bite or hearty meal and enjoy the atmosphere at the Locks from our outside seating area.
