Foxton Locks is a beautiful area to spend the day any time of year but it really comes into it’s own in summer. Why not make the most of a visit to Foxton Locks with a boat trip?
You can get afloat on Vagabond a classic trip boat, or you can rent a boat for a day, contact Foxton Boat Services or call on 0116 279 2285.
Foxton locks are controlled by lock keepers in the summer and have restricted opening times in winter, please follow the instructions posted on the locks. In busy periods there can be a long wait to go through the locks, but there is plenty to do on site. Click here for more information.
Foxton Locks Summer Opening Times – 18th April to 28th September 2014
Foxton Locks are open from 8am to 7pm, last boat at 6.15pm, between Friday 18th April 2014 and Sunday 28th September 2014, seven days a week. It takes approximately 45 minutes to pass through the flight and you must be through the flight by the time of closure. As locks can be very busy, please allow yourself plenty of time to ensure passage.

Foxton Locks has been featured in a top 10 places to walk in Leicestershire over the Christmas break, for those wanting to get some fresh air. The Leicester Mercury article mentions:
There’s plenty to see, not least the series of 10 locks on the Grand Union Canal.
Anyone wanting to benefit from the views at Foxton Locks can use the walking route outlined upon arrival at the car park. Alternatively the following route is available from The AA which is reviewed as ‘a pleasant walk through the South Leicestershire countryside.’
The walking route finishes at the car park next to The Foxton Locks Inn, so it’s easy to join us for a warming drink or hearty meal as a reward for a brisk winter’s walk.
This years Foxton Locks festival held on the 29th and 30th of June was a massive success with record attendance numbers and great weather on both days.
Entertainment included a wide range of bands, stalls, fun fair, pets corner, vintage vehicles, medieval living village, and of course canal boats and lots more.
