The new Boilerhouse at Foxton Locks

A new exhibition has been opened at Foxton Locks, showcasing what it was like to work and live along the canal in the 19th century. The Boilerhouse displays a range of exhibits, including an interactive game where visitors can stoke the boiler to create optimal conditions for the Inclined Plane, an enticing theatre and an app available from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store that brings the boats back to life. (‘Foxton Discovery’ £3.99 in app purchase to unlock the full virtual experience.)

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions comments: “The development of The BoilerHouse at Foxton Locks has created a major new visitor experience in Leicestershire, providing people with a virtual window into the sights of the Victorian waterways and the unique Inclined Plane boat lift at Foxton.”

All technology from the exhibit was delivered in partnership with Holovis and was designed at the company’s Innovation Campus in Lutterworth. A lot of hard work was put in to transform what was previously the Foxton Canal museum. The Boilerhouse displays similar things in new and innovative ways making it the perfect addition to what was already a fantastic place to visit.

Market Harborough named in top 50 best places to live

Market Harborough has this month been named as one of the top 50 best towns and suburbs to live in by The Sunday Times newspaper.

The announcement came in part three of The Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live guide, which combines data on crime rates, house prices and school performance to rank the UK’s towns, suburbs, rural areas and cities.

The guide states: “Still relatively undiscovered by those seeking life after London, this ancient town in low-cost Leicestershire is within the magic hour by fast train from St Pancras.”

“The charismatic mix of period architecture in the centre is topped by the newly renovated Old Grammar School, built on stilts in the early 1600s with a marketplace underneath. You can hire it out now, though Harborough has plenty of other interesting places for a get-together.”

The guide even makes mention of the Grand Union Canal, which passes by The Foxton Locks Inn. Described as “a nice spot for boating, cycling or a weekend stroll”, the canal takes in some of the most beautiful scenery in Leicestershire. The Foxton Locks Inn provides the perfect location to stop for a drink or meal and take in the scenery.
